Description

Lactobacillus (LAB) are common rhizosphere bacteria commonly found with host of other beneficial microbes. Lactobacillus isolated from diverse sources have been shown to be effective biofertilizers, biocontrol agents, biostimulants.

• LAB as biofertilizers: Compost inoculated with EM have been shown to produce
  greater yields and increase nutrient uptake for wheat, soybean, mung bean, rice and cotton
  as compared to plants grown with non-inoculated composts. LAB have shown capability to solubilize Phosphates and Fix Atmospheric nitrogen.
• LAB as biocontrol: Compost teas fermented with mixed cultures containing Lactobacillus have been effective against powdery mildew on a variety of cucurbits.
• Lactobacillus and stress amelioration: Strains of Lactobacillus have been shown to ameliorate abiotic stress in plants studies have found that clones of the medicinal plant, Swertia chirayita, that were inoculated with L. plantarum were more resilient to salt stress.
• LAB as biostimulant: Lactobacillus has been shown to promote growth in diverse crops.
